COVER LETTER

Dear Kristina

Before I start I want to inform you that this is an application for the job CONSULTANT MANAGER ASSISTANT at Academic Work in Örebro.

My name is Helene Hollywood and I’m studying Industrial engineering and management, focused on IT- technology and communication at Royal Institute of Technology (KTH).
I have done some smaller work tasks for Academic Work in the past and I have enjoyed it very much. I like to work extra, because that is when I perform as best. Many tasks in the air are something that I like and I love to plan how my week will be full of different kinds of activities.

To recruit people for Academic Work will be very instructive for me. To find those golden coins out there that you can match with a service that is offered would be very satisfying. I believe not only that it would be a good experience for me, but also that you would benefit by having a driven person with high stress resistance and who like to work hard.

I have a good eye for service and have experienced this as both a waitress and while working in a help-desk at Hewlett Packard (HP). This is something that i feel is important at almost any job and I'm sure my knowledge about this will come handy at your company.

I like how your organization is structured and would enjoy a good partnership. I see my education as an advantage because I have knowledge from many different parts, such as economics, management, engineering and IT.

One of my biggest interests are sports, and I have done a lot of different kind of things, playing in teams, coaching and done referees. What I have experienced from that will also be applicable in this job, since I have good leader skills, I see myself as a great team player and I know how to make fast decisions.

Right now I’m in Singapore on an exchange semester and will be home in Örebro June 1. I can start working earlier if needed, but then it will be through my computer.

I have attached my resume in this email and I'm looking forward to hear from you. Please contact me on +00123-234567 or Helene@hello.com if you find have any questions.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Helene Hollywood

  1. Hi Helene,

As you mentioned, you want to be a consultant manager assistant. I think what you need to do is to write your resume to show that you have the experience of what they requested for. Perhaps you have created ads online before, or have conducted a large scale interview for a project.

I think you should highlight such specific cases of what you have done, as that shows your competency in the particular field.

I would also suggest that you write with more powerful words such as 'assisted' instead of help, and to include your achievements. (ie: Successfully assisted students in scoring X grade or entering university) I think that would make your resume stand out a bit more too.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Hi Helene,

All in all I enjoyed reading this letter as you sound really friendly to the potential employers and you bring across your friendly character through the letter. It is also good that you have voiced out what it is about the company that draws you to it as this would certainly give them a reason to hire you as well.

Here are some suggestions on what you could perhaps look into correcting.

Firstly, (not sure whether you are leaving out the details on purpose since this is such a public platform) but I think it would be good for you to follow the format that the peer teaching groups have offered us. Namely, to start with the date, your personal details followed by the details of your potential employer. I personally find it very useful and would suggest you refer to it too. Personally, I think following a set format brings across your professionalism and also, gives you a good guideline to follow so that you would not accidentally leave out important details that should be included in the letter.

Secondly, I am not too certain what the culture of the company is like however, generally in the context of Sinagpore, addressing individuals such as your potential employers would require the use of salutations such as Mr and Miss. This is deemed as a sign of respect for the individual and makes it more formal to suit the occasion.

Thirdly, rather than saying “I like to work extra, because that is when I perform as best. Many tasks in the air are something that I like and I love to plan how my week will be full of different kinds of activities.”, my suggestion is that it would perhaps be more clearly phrased as “Willingness to do more than what I have been assigned is something that I pride myself with and I enjoy an active lifestyle having my weeks filled with multiple activities.”

Perhaps you could consider explaining in the letter what are the specific things that you would be able to do if the company were to hire you.

Hope this helps!:) All the best Helene!
